Rocking X Ranch
Imagine. You leave your home on Thursday and travel to central Arizona, where you begin in the desert, driving along back roads many people have never seen. As you climb, you watch the vegetation change. Prickly pear cactus give way to saguaros, then to yucca, then to oak. You move through canyons up into the pines, into the Tonto National Forest and the wilderness to 5500 feet. You turn on to the road to the Rocking X property along a lovely creek in the Sierra Ancha mountains. You are truly in the Wild West, in a location few people get to visit.
You know your journey has just begun.
You open the gate and see a row of rustic, red guest cabins on the right, along the creek. You’ll have your own bath and shower and wood-burning stove. A charming log cabin is our residence, and if you are attending a retreat, we will meet here for meals and for our sessions around the historic rock fireplace. Our caretaker, David, and his family live up on the hill.
Maybe the walnuts and sycamores are showing fall color. Maybe the creek has gone dry, and maybe it is rushing hard. Apples might remain in the orchard or blackberries could rim the pond. Here nature and the seasons are in charge.
We live in an age where this is an amazing feature to advertise: No electricity! No cell phone coverage! No internet service? That’s right—you can experience peace here and have the opportunity to explore the landscape and the nature of YOU!
The Rocking X is in a valley filled with native ruins, red rock formations and abundant wildlife. We think you will find the land to be a very special sanctuary, the perfect wilderness oasis to re-discover the quiet and beauty without and within. Be prepared for the brightest stars you’ve seen in a long time!
You’ll have 30 acres to explore, surrounded by endless trails and fascinating history. The Ranch has been a Mogollon Indian settlement, an Apache hunting ground, a lion hunter’s camp, a homesteader’s dream, a camp for kids, a working cattle ranch and a Trachta family treasure. You’ll meet the horses and dogs, and will want to explore the old barn, the pasture, the root cellar and the swimmin’ hole.
Most of all, you will sink into the experience of being with a rare and sacred piece of land. It is our privilege to be able to share the Rocking X with you.
“It’s absolutely necessary to be sequestered from the interruptions of daily life and to feel connected to Mother Earth and the privacy of this ranch.”
